Atru, Abhaneri, Amva: Are these Pancharatra Temples?

27 Sep '18 6.30 pm

Vaishnava temples of the ninth and tenth century are found at Abhaneri, Atru and Amva in Rajasthan. Except for that at Abhaneri, now known as the Harshadmata temple and recognised as belonging to the Pancharatra sect of Vaishnavism, the others are relatively less known to scholars. All have suffered damage, are without inscribed records of their foundations, and their statuary is now interrupted. Dr. Kirit Mankodi will attempt to show in his talk that Atru, Amva and others could also have been Pancharatra, and should not be described as just ‘Vaishnava’.
