G.C.Tripathi

Professor Tripathi is a reputed Indologist and Sanskrit scholar. He has received countless awards recognising his scholarship from the government of India as well as from various Indological and Sanskrit institutes in India and abroad. He completed a PhD on 'Vedic Deities and their Subsequent Development' from Sanskrit University in Varanasi (1962); a DPhil from the University of Freiburg (1967) with a focus on Comparative Religions, Indo-European Philology, and Latin; and, a DLitt on Orissan Temple Ritual in the department of Ancient Indian History and Culture at Allahabad University (1986). Trained in manuscriptology and textual criticism of the Leipzig School of Indology, Prof. Tripathi has served for 33 years as Director of or Professor in a number of universities and institutes in India and abroad, including the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, University of Heidelberg, University of Leipzig, as well as University of Oxford. He has authored seven books and edited 19 Sanskrit texts from manuscripts.
