Visiting Scholars @ JP

Arshia Sattar

Arshia Sattar has a Ph.D. from the Department of South Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago. Her translations from Sanskrit of Tales from the Kathasritsagara and The Valmiki Ramayana have been published by Penguin Books. Her latest book, titled Lost Loves: Exploring Rama’s Anguish, comprises a series of essays that imagines what might have been the thoughts and feelings of Rama and Sita as they lived through those terrible years of trial and separation. The essays also explore what happens to love in separation (viraha) and how public and private lives and desires collide. Sattar describes herself as someone who ‘writes and teaches here and there to make ends meet’.
